Celso Alberti was born in Curitiba, Southern Brazil. The driving rhythms of his country’s music led him to develop an early interest in the drums and by the age of 17 he was performing regularly as a professional. In 1982 he decided to expand his musical horizons and move to New York City.

After two years of playing with numerous jazz and Brazilian artists in the Big Apple he landed a gig with Terra Sul, a San Francisco-based Brazilian band signed to the Motown MoJazz label. By 1986 he also had joined Batucaje which won that year’s Jammies Music Award for “Best Brazilian Band.” In this same year Celso started his first major tour as a drummer for the world-renowned percussionist Airto Moreira and his wife, singer Flora Purim. They traveled extensively throughout Europe, the United States and Brazil and recorded the album The Magicians for Concord Crossover Records and The Flight for B&W Records.

In 1989 he toured with jazz flautist Herbie Mann and also formed an original instrumental power trio called No Man’s Land which performed as a supporting act for guitarist Eric Johnson.

The years following have been filled with recordings, tours and performances with various artists including guitarists Joyce Cooling, Danny Heines, John Lucien, Jose Neto (Steve Winwood), bassist Michael Man-ring, keyboardist Kit Walker (Kitaro, Airto), Frank Martin (Narada Michael Walden) and others.

In 1995, Celso, along with partner Marquinho Brasil (percussionist with Mariah Carey), built Moondog Studios a recording facility in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since then he has been developing his engineering and production skills, leading him to produce Chris Saunders’ San-dancer (2003 Bmoki Productions) and to co-produce with bassist Gary Brown the epic album Book Of Kings (1999 Bibi Noor Productions). Celso also engineers both live and in the studio for Flora Purim, Airto and other world class acts.

When Celso is not in the studio producing, he is drumming with artists like Craig Chaquico, Steve Winwood, Annica, Neto Band, Sandy Cressman, Marcos Silva, James Robinson, Rolando Morales and many others.
