What is the difference between the PRO and STD series of drum shields?

The two series are designed to handle different working conditions.  The PRO series is design to be moved on regular basis and is manufactured with features that support that type of use.  Radius corners to prevent panels from chipping and rubber footing to absorb shock.  Our STD series is similar to most drum shields on the market and is designed to be moved occasionally.  Both series block sound equally and carry our 1 year warranty.  While both series have space for cables runs between the panels, the PRO series has a larger space due to the radius corners.

What effect does a Drum Shield have on how my drums sound?

Using the Drum Shield will improve the sound of your drums by allowing the natural sound and the drum microphone sound to mix appropriately with the overall sound of the band.  The deeper more natural drum sound occurs by not allowing your drums to bleed into other microphones (vocal or instrument).  A decrease in the ability of a microphone to pickup low and middle frequencies occurs the further the sound source is from the microphone.  On stage all the microphones that are NOT on the drums (amplifier or vocal), increase all the upper frequencies of the drums. With Drum Shields the integrity of the drum sound is not lost to those ambient microphones.  There is also a second effect of using Drum Shields.  Your drum microphones pick up a wider range of sound by keeping the drum sound contained.  Resulting in improved lows, better midrange and highs.  Even medium quality microphones will give you better performance behind the Drum Shield.

How do I decide between 4, 5, and 5.5 feet tall?

The 5 foot panels will give you excellent blocking of cymbal and drum stage volume providing better control of overall drum sound.  5 foot panels are our number one seller.

If you are up on a tall drum riser or some type of stage equipment that puts your cymbals above the vocal microphones or if you have visual concerns (where you want to be seen if you were a singing drummer) then the 4 foot will block the drums and about half of the cymbal volume from the stage area. We also offer a 5.5 foot and 6 foot tall shield that provide the maximum blocking.  If you have other musicians standing close to the drums, then you may want to consider these shields.

How do I decide on the number of panels to purchase?

4 panels will work well for 4 piece or small 5 piece drum kits.  5 panels will cover medium to large 5 piece drum kits and small 6 piece kits (2 mounted toms and 2 side or floor toms).  6 panels for any large kits, double bass kits or for the ultimate in stage volume control over any size drum set.  Another consideration is where the drums are located.   As the drums move towards the front of the stage, you need to increase the number of panels to provide more side converge. Click here to see sample layouts.

What materials are used in the making of Drum Shields?

Drum Shields are machined from 1/4" thick clear acrylic sheets.  Approximate weight is 12 pounds for each 4 foot high panel and 16 pounds for each 5 foot high panel.  The edges are rounded for safe handling and corners have a 2" radius to allow easy access of microphone cables.

How Do We Compare to Plastic Companies and Discount On-line Retailers?

When comparing our products to others make sure you are not getting a bunch of pieces in a box that you have to spend hours assembling.  Our STD and PRO Drum Shields are fully assembled, NOT KITS.   We compare prices every week and nobody sells an assembled shield for less.  Most of the time our prices are still less than the plastic company and discount on-line retailers kit prices.
